This car is a power house for those of you who will be looking for style, performance and to a certain degree, practicality. The Giulia was initially expected to go on sale in Europe at some stage during the first half of 2016 – but alas it has only just landed during December 2016. This will be one to watch as it goes into competition with BMW, Lexus, Jaguar and Audi.
There are both petrol and diesel engines available with the new Giulia. The 2.2 JTD, entry level engine, offers 150bhp and will bring you from 0-100km/h in 8.2 seconds. The 2.0 litre turbo petrol covers the same distance in just 6.6 seconds and has a top speed of 235 km/h. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio which is powered by a 2.9l V6 bi-turbo petrol engine. This 510hp engine, which has a Ferrari background should take you from 0-100 km/h in a very quick 3.9 seconds. This is aided by the dynamic 50/50 weight distribution on the front and rear axles. The top speed, we’re told, is a roaring 307 km/h. To make sure that the driver is entertained by all of this power the noise has been enhanced in the cockpit. This is called the Alfa Active Sound System and when the driver chooses “RACE” mode the noise of the engine should enter the vehicle through a dedicated loudspeaker.
This car houses a front panel suspension system. It has a double-wishbone semi-virtual steering axis. What this should bring to the mix is steering accuracy at higher speeds. The rear suspension features what’s called “Alfa Link”, this aluminium multi-link system is there to create extra balance on corners. The Alfa Active Suspension is there to allow the vehicle to dynamically adapt to the road depending on its conditions.

Typical of Alfa Romeo, all of the driver controls are directed at the driver and the surfaces appear to be made of quality hand-crafted materials. The inside is made up of elements such as wood and carbon fibre. That carbon fibre can be found in the front seats, the roof, the hood, the driveshaft and the aerodynamic appendices of the vehicle.
In the interest of safety, Alfa Romeo has created this machine with 6 airbags. Other safety features include ESC and Lane Departure Warning – which will let the driver know if the car feels that it’s going slightly off-track. Also available is Blind Spot Monitoring, which uses radar sensors that checks your surrounds prior to changing lanes. Forward Collision Warning systems are in place to warn the driver of any potential collisions to the front of the vehicle.
The boot offers 480 litres of space – which is pretty much on par with what BMW are offering in the 3 Series. The front cabin is comfortable and spacious and the rear is decent for two adults - and a third for shorter runs.
