Want to go off road? Fancy driving up walls? Well, the Discovery might be the one for you. However, I didn't mean that about the walls. This is an extremely capable 4x4 that's up for most challenges. When it comes to off-roading, it's hard to beat. It even deals with normal terrains in great fashion. This car is up against the likes of the BMW X5, the Audi Q7 and others.
The Discovery is available to the Irish market with a 3.0 TDV6 (6-cylinder) engine and it offers a beefy 211 hp. On-paper, this tank will bring you from 0-100km/h in 9.9 seconds and is only available with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The good news is that this is a real beast, and it doesn't offer a two-wheel drive model.
The suspension in the car keeps this machine cruising smoothly, even over minor road imperfections. Even the bigger trenches on Irish roads are dealt with in a reasonable manner. If you do opt for one of these, it would be reasonable to expect a large amount of body roll on corners/ It's heavy and high, so don't be surprised while turning. While it's an excellent cruiser, country roads with twists and turns can be an adventure. Take it off road and you can really appreciate the Discovery.
The engine is loud, and not all of it is the noises that you always want to hear. It can sound like a large van on occasion. Wind noise does play its tune too. Also, make sure to get the right tyres as there can be a lot of tyre noises too.
The interior quality is good in the Defender. Everything appears to be upmarket. However, considering the cost of this vehicle, I would expect just a little more luxury.
The current Discovery hasn't been tested since 2006. It now offers blind spot monitoring, plenty of airbags, cameras, sensors, and much more.
This seven seater offers plenty of space. Row one and two are especially comfortable. Row three is even big enough for adults. With the third row seats down, there is a sizeable boot too.
