The new C Class Coupe was released during 2016 to the Irish market and to date it has been receiving very warm reviews. This car will never be a top seller here, but it is priced reasonably enough. Updates to the car are beautiful and the higher up the trim line you go, the more luxurious this car becomes. Apart from a lack of coffee cup holders and a boot that can't be opened without a key in your hand, the C-Class Coupe is certainly one that will keep you smiling.
There are a range of engines available with the C-Class Coupe. All variants house 4 cylinder engines except for the AMG C63 and the C63 S, which house 8. The entry level C180 will bring you from 0-100km/h in just 8.5 seconds and it has a top speed of 225km/h. The 220d, with an automatic gearbox does the same in 7.5 seconds and the top speed stretches to 234km/h. If you can afford to go down the route of the AMG C63 or the C63 S, you are looking at 0-100km/h in 4 or 3.9 seconds respectively - with limited top speeds of 250km/h. The range comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed or 9-speed automatic gearbox. The 9G Tronic box would be our choice.
If you are going down the route of buying one of these, there is an option of air suspension which helps in making the drive even more relaxing by really soaking up the bumps. The 9G Tronic gearbox is very sweet and it changes seamlessly through the gears. The nice gear changes coupled with plenty of grip on bendy roads make for a super drive. While we are yet to drive the AMG offerings, we believe that the straight line acceleration is exceptional and once again, if you've got the money and if you're looking for a high performing coupe, then this may be the choice for you.
Unsurprisingly, the C Class Coupe is an extremely refined car. Our test model was the C220d, and the internal padding is excellent. There is no external noise to intrude on your comfort. We've been informed that the bigger C250d has a slightly louder engine, but we can't imagine it being too intrusive.
The exterior looks excellent, but once you step inside you really get to appreciate the class and precision throughout the vehicle. While the infotainment system is a bit complicated, the leather materials are extremely attractive. For some reason, there were no coffee cup holders in our test model, and for the price being paid for a machine like this, they would be a nice addition. The steering wheel is thick-enough, but nicely padded and the steering wheel controls are easier to use than the centre console for navigating through the infotainment system.
In 2011 the C Class coupe received a full five stars in the Euro NCAP, we expect this vehicle to score as highly. A large amount of safety aids come with this coupe, including; optional adaptive cruise control, Attention Assist, optional LED intelligent Light System, rear view cameras and more.
If you're looking for enormous space, then you're in the wrong segment of car. The front area has ample room. The back seats however are not really for adults, and if you get them in there, it would only be for short distances. The boot offers a good 400 litres.
