The 500L MPW is a stretched version of the 500L adding an additional two seats to rear and even more versatility
The Fiat 500L MPW comes with just one engine variant. This is the 1.6 litre Multi-jet II with 120bhp mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The MPW is much larger than the standard 500L and is well suited to its size. With that in mind, the 500L MPW is the most compact seven seater on the market so the Fiat engineers have worked hard to keep it as light and efficient as possible.
Like the other 500L variants in the range, the MPW is built for passenger comfort rather than driving dynamics. Its soft suspension means it wafts along the motorway in a relaxing and easy manner well insulated from most road and wind noise. It’s not so impressive in the corners however with vague steering and obvious body lean. The seats are very supportive and comfortable which helps matters. Overall it is a very comfortable family carrier.
The 500L MPW comes in two trim levels, Popstar and Lounge. Like its 500L sibling, the MPW is customisable with a huge range of contrast interior and body colour exteriors to choose from. Standard kit includes air conditioning, specific side mouldings and chrome inserts, cruise control, leather gear knob, 5 inch touchscreen radio with Bluetooth, magic cargo seats and 16 inch alloy wheels. Moving up to Lounge adds 17 inch alloy wheels, a full panoramic glass roof, tinted windows and half leather interior.
There is no doubting the quality of the Fiat 500L MPW’s interior. It looks great and feels solid to the touch. There is an obvious use of quality materials throughout and its dashboard strips in body colour and chrome protective strips on the exterior make it more aesthetically appealing. Fiat’s familiar uConnect 5 inch touch screen and infotainment system sits front and centre at the top of the centre console. This is a simple and very user friendly system ready for smartphone connectivity. The rest of the switchgear throughout the cabin is familiar modern Fiat fittings, chunky, solid and easy to operate.
The Fiat 500L MPW is the largest passenger car that Italian manufacturer makes with comfort and safety at the core of its design. You will be happy to hear it received full marks and a 5 star Euro NCAP rating during crash testing. It also gets a safety equipment as the 500L as standard. These include a full set of airbags included new window airbags design especially for the 500L, electronic stability control and hill assist. You can also spec a low speed collision warning system for a nominal figure.
The Fiat 500L MPW is designed as a seven seater, but don’t expect to get anyone bigger than child in these seats as space is tight. They can be removed too to create more room in the boot area. Like the 500L, the rear bench can also slide back or forward to create more room for passengers or additional boot pace. General storage throughout the cabin is good with a double glovebox, decent size door pockets and a centrally located cubby. With the rear bench fully forward and the additional two seats out of the boot, capacity is a massive 630 litres. With the seats in place however, capacity is reduced to a small 168 litres.
