The 3008 was Peugeot’s answer to the Qashqai revolution. It’s combination of a spacious interior, comfortable ride and economical engines make it a popular choice among crossover buyers.
The Peugeot 3008 comes with a choice of one petrol and one diesel engine with a range of varying power outputs. The petrol option is the three cylinder 1.2 litre PureTech with 130bhp mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The diesel option is the favourable four cylinder 1.6 litre BlueHDi that offers a choice of 115 and 120bhp. The 115bhp model comes with a 6-speed manual while the 120bhp offers the option of the automatic transmission. If you cover motorway mileage, the 1.6 litre model with 115bhp is the pick of the bunch with a good balance of performance and economy.
Most crossovers have a small SUV style appearance but the 3008 gets more of a practical MPV (people carrier) design. For this reason, it makes it a very comfortable motorway cruiser for driver and passengers. The 3008’s supple suspension setup and high ride height helps it to absorb lumps and bumps with ease, but it doesn’t make for great driving dynamics, so don’t be expecting an exciting drive from this Peugeot. The 1.2 petrol option can feel a little sluggish but is perfectly capable around town and making school runs.
Like most of the cars in the Peugeot range, the 3008 comes with the familiar choice of three trim levels, Access, Active and Allure. And like the rest of the range, standard equipment is generous. Access level gets electric front and rear windows, electric mirrors, CD & MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity, multi-function steering wheel and air-conditioning. Move up the ranks and you benefit further from a leather steering wheel and gear knob, auto wipers and lights, aluminium front grille and chrome inserts. You can also select options like leather seats and metallic paint.
Despite the 3008’s MPV styling, its high transmission tunnel gives you the impression that you are sitting quite low down with a dashboard that wraps neatly around you. There is a reassuring sense of quality with the use of soft-touch materials and solid toggle switches that make it look and feel like a premium product. The dash is further highlighted by the contrast aluminium inserts around the gear shifter and across the dashboard and steering wheel that gives a sense of finesse to the finish of the cabin. It’s soft but supportive seats and comfortable ride make it a perfect motorway cruiser.
The Peugeot 3008 scored the full five star rating in Euro NCAP crash testing. It is a very safe family car that comes with a strong level of safety features as standard. These include a full host of airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, traction control and a clever corner brake control. You also get automatic illumination of hazard lights under emergency stops and automatic seatbelt tensioners. Higher spec models get cruise control and a colour head-up display.
The 3008 gets a spacious cabin with good storage for front seats passengers thanks to decently sized door pockets and a central cubby. Rear passenger headroom is great but legroom for adult passengers, is not its number one feature. Three children across the back for long journeys will be perfectly happy. Boot space is also good with an impressive 512 litre capacity which is bigger than the Nissan Qashqai, Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Yeti. Folding the rear seats increases capacity to a massive 1604 litres of space.
